For West Ham United, this move is a once in a lifetime opportunity; a game-changer in terms of the Club’s ability to expand our support base, increase our revenue, invest in our playing squad, and get back to competing at the top of English and European football, as we did in the glory days of the 1960s.  

When joint-Chairmen David Sullivan and David Gold took control of the Club in January 2010, they looked at all the options to achieve these ambitions and concluded that seeking to take ownership of the Olympic Stadium was not only the best way of doing so, but the only one.
 
In March 2013, after a protracted bidding process where West Ham’s proposal was judged the best at all three stages, we were finally confirmed as the principal tenants of the Stadium, with a 99-year lease.
 
Since then, the Club have worked tirelessly to ensure that the iconic venue that hosted the 2012 Games is not only transformed into one of the greatest stadiums in world football, but one that will look and feel unmistakably like West Ham United’s new home.
 
In doing so, we have worked closely with the E20 PLP, the consortium set up by the London Legacy Development Corporation and the London Borough of Newham to run Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, as well as with Stadium designers Populus and construction contractors Balfour Beatty.
 
Our commitment throughout this process has been to put the needs and wishes of our supporters first, and to build a Stadium that will exceed their expectations in every way. We are confident that when it comes to the big kick-off in 2016, all Hammers fans will see that those pledges have been met. 

As a result, from the layout of the changing rooms to the acoustics of the new roof, the facilities offered to players and fans in this magnificent new Stadium will be second to none in Britain, and will provide the most fitting stage for West Ham to get back into the elite of European football.
